SEATPOD

The SeatPod was created to address a problem surrounding storage that many bicyclists experience during their commute to work or school. Through extensive observational research and survey interviews, a solution was created! The SeatPod is a 2-in-1 bike seat that features a unique, practical internal storage compartment.

The inside of the SeatPod is filled with a soft-touch, weatherproof memory foam that takes on the shape of any object you place inside. The material hugs your belongings to avoid them bouncing around as you commute. This makes it ideal for holding your keys, phone, wallet, as well as small bike maintenance tools. Underneath the seat, you’ll find a keypad where you’re able to input a 4-digit code of your choosing to ensure only you can gain access.

The SeatPod was developed with human engineering in mind, offering a wide, ergonomic design with pressure-relieving comfort. It also has a seat clamp for easy installation and comes in three colors and two texture options to truly cater to your needs and wants!

USER RESEARCH

 

Influence Mapping:

Used to quickly assess all fields that will have an input into the design and how they are connected to one another. The goal was to understand the requirements and synthesize the findings into a single coherent idea that addresses the users’ concerns.

The mapping began with nine topics related to bicycle commuting:

  • Parts

  • Safety

  • Storage

  • Hygiene

  • Clothing

  • Weather

  • Train/Bus

  • Laws and Rules

  • Space and Location

 
 

User Interviews:

After identifying problem areas bicyclists experience through observational research and influence mapping, a list of questions was curated to further specify the issues. The next step was to gather real-world information directly from the source.

The interviews led to the pain point of not having adequate storage or having to carry additional baggage that weighed them down.
